How did I get here? Did I just wake up one day and say “Hey I want to be a Registered Holistic Nutritionist!”? If only it were that simple.
My journey to this point began, I would say, about 7 years ago. To give you a bit of back story let’s go back to my general upbringing. I was raised in a big family with a mother who was home until I (the youngest) began kindergarten. My sister and I played sports throughout our school years and one brother played hockey even in adulthood. The other 3 brothers were not physically active. Neither were my parents, beyond what their jobs and everyday living required. Our diets consisted of quite a lot of homemade meals, using cheap(er) ingredients, but also included a lot of junk food, fast food, and highly processed foods. AKA the SAD diet, (Standard American Diet).
Back when I was growing up Organics were never heard about, the link between health conditions ranging from A-Z and food was not connected. People believed and still do that stores wouldn’t sell things that would harm us, the Government would protect us. I believed it, until about my mid to late 30’s when I started to question my health, my eating, my struggle with excess weight. I tried all the diets, I tried doing what I was told would work. Sure I lost weight, but I never kept it off! And I wasn’t necessarily healthy just because I had lost weight. And what about my emotional eating? No diet ever helped that!
I’ve always been, at least on some level, a believer in natural and alternative health modalities. I’ve researched and experimented with quite a few while trying to find my niche in helping myself and to create a career where I get to help others dealing with the same issues. I’ve taken Reiki. I’ve taken Reflexology. I’ve taken Quantum Touch Energy Healing. I’ve been treated with massage, cranial-sacral therapy, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), and many more. They are all great and I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of them in my journey to health and staying healthy but they weren’t connecting, resonating, on a deep level with me. Until one day, in late 2010, while searching the internet, I came across information on Holistic Nutrition – the connection between food and physical, spiritual and mental health. That was my first AHA! moment. I’ve had many since embarking on my course in school to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.
So now, here I am, still living my journey but with the knowledge to help others. I love helping people, I love educating people. I love sharing my knowledge. This is where it begins, with you and me. Talking and sharing and getting healthier, in whatever way that is right for us. We ARE individuals! There is no one standard set of recommendations for all, no one standard diet that I will give you. There is exploration, and change and excitement as you see your body, your mind, and your spirit improve, get healthier (and that again can be different for everyone), and live life in joy, strength and with passion!
Talk to me, I’m here to help. 🙂
